Learning how to Improve your credit score

If you have that have been rejected for credit due to a low score may want to take steps to improve your credit score. There are actually several steps that can be used to raise the score so that it is possible that you may qualify for that loan that is needed. Here are a few tested and tried methods that will work.

The first step I would take to raise my credit score is to order a copy of my credit report from each of the three major credit reporting agencies. Every consumer in the USA is entitled to a free copy from each of the agencies once each year. In addition, consumers are entitled to receive additional copies of any report that has caused them to be denied credit. These reports contain some important information that can help to make a big difference in ones score.

In most cases, the free reports can be reviewed and printed on the internet. In some cases, the company will send a paper report if some bit of information cannot be verified. Once the reports are received, take some time to review the information contained. If the report contains any inaccurate information, it is your right to ask that the information be verified. The company making the erroneous report has thirty days from your inquiry to either verify the information or to remove it from the report.

Accounts that were closed more than seven years ago, by either the consumer or the creditor cannot remain on the credit report. You have the right to ask that this information be removed from your account. If the data in these entries is negative, it can lower the score. However, be careful as some of these older accounts add age to ones credit report and actually increase the score.

Any correspondence with creditors or the credit reporting agencies should be done by certified mail. Keep a copy of the correspondence and ask the post office for a return receipt.
