Car Credit With A Bad Credit Score

For a few years in the last decade it didn’t really matter too much what your credit score was you could generally still get a car loan.  The money was so loose, and there was so much available to loan, most people were able to get money with out even showing a way they could pay it back.  I know of people who had a bankruptcy and then a few months later were buying a new car.  The atmosphere was crazy and it had to end which of course it did.

Today it is much harder to get car credit in order to buy that car of your dreams.  Everything has tightened up and you actually have to show you can make the payments.  But what do you do if you have a low credit score?  The best long term solution is to increase the score on your credit report so you look like you are a better risk for the bank or finance company to loan money on.

There are several ways to do this.  First, starting today pledge to never be late on a payment of any kind.  When your credit report says “paid as agreed” that means you have made the payments for your loan on time and banks really like to see that.  Second, if you don’t have any loans apply for a small one at your bank.  And if you don’t have a bank find one and create a small saving account.  It is important to have a relationship with financial people when you start to look for a loan.  This makes it easier to find car financing with bad credit.  The personal touch always makes a difference.

If you can’t get a standard loan then look at a secured loan or secured credit card.  A secured card requires you to put up some money as a deposit, around $300, until you prove you can make the payments.  This is a great way to start building your credit.  You can also get a loan using collateral, like a car title, but if you don’t own anything you don’t have any collateral.

Improving your credit score is very important to building a healthy financial situation in your life.
