Cash For Cans

Cash for cans is very different than many of the posts here on Fast Cash, but it’s a very viable method for getting money when you need it.  It helps you, and it helps the planet, and these are two things that are important to me, so I’m going to write about it.

Recycling cans for cash has gotten a bad rap in many large cities because of the homeless population digging through trash cans to get a little money to survive, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use it to get fast cash.  There are aluminum cans everywhere, and it’s just a matter of finding, gathering, and returning them for you to get paid.  You don’t need to cruise around town with a shopping cart full of cans (although, it wouldn’t hurt!) to get paid.  Ask friends and family what they have on hand, or go to your local restaurants to see if you can take them from them.

My own experience with recycling aluminum cans for cash is here in California.  We pay a five cent deposit on every bottle and can that we buy, and that money is returned by recycling centers when the cans are brought back.  I know that this isn’t the case in every state, but there are scrap metal recycling stations everywhere that will take your cans for cash.  In most cases, all you need to get cash is an ID from your state and they’ll accept your cans.  In some states, like Arizona, there are much stricter regulations on giving your scrap metal to these recyclers due to high rates of copper theft, but if all you have is aluminum you shouldn’t have much trouble.

How much can you make?  It’s usually around $12/lb. for aluminum if you recycle with scrap collector.  Keep in mind that a pound of aluminum is quite a few cans, so you better get out there and get collecting!  Before you end up with tons and tons of trash bags filled with cans, figure out where you’re going to recycle them and how you’ll get them down there.  Nothing is worse than being stuck with bags filled with potential money and nowhere to cash it in!

Not all states pay cash for glass recycling, but here in California it can be a very profitable business.  Wine bottles alone will yield a dime, so there is a lot of money to be made.

Most of your stuff can be sold at pawn shops.  While most pawn shops buy everything, they pay the most for electronics, jewelry, guns, bicycles, guitars, and tools.  For your books, head to you local used bookstore.  Music goes to the record store.  Video games go to GameStop.  I think you see a trend here.  People are buying used stuff more than ever now because of the economic slowdown, so you can use the world’s misfortune to your benefit.

Please be wary of just about every promise of making fast cash online.  In most cases it doesn’t exist, or the amount of work that needs to be done is severely understated.  There are a few ways that I’ve tried and had some good results with.

The first, and most effective way to earn money today online, is Project Payday.  I’ve written in detail about it here or visit their site here.   They’re so sure that you’ll make money today, they’ll pay you $100 if you don’t.  It worked for me, and I made a little over $200 in my first two day there.  I certainly could have made more, had I spent more time doing it, but I’ve got a monster website like this one to keep up with!

Another way to make money online is by selling stuff online.  If you have a camera, you can skip the trip to the pawnshop.  With sites like Craigslist, Amazon, and eBay you have lots of options to sell your stuff.  Each one has their own terms and what works well on one site doesn’t on the rest of them, but you can make some fast cash this way.  Craigslist is certainly the fastest, since it works locally as a classified ad to put your listing in front of people eyes.  Amazon is great for books and video games, and eBay works great for just about everything else (including high-ticket items and cars).

Start Earning Money Today By Working For Cash

If you have a skill or talent that most people don’t, you’re bound to find someone to pay you to do it.  If you’re great with a weed-whacker, go out in your neighborhood and offer to mow lawns.  If you’re good with dogs, start a dog-walking business.  There are million needs out there that need to be filled, you just have to figure out what you can do (keep it clean, though!).

There are also jobs that pay cash like strippers, bartenders, servers, bouncers, and parking lot attendants.  If you have these kind of places in your area, you can probably go out and make some money tonight!

Like I said above, this isn’t ever option there is.  It should work to open your mind to the other options there are to make some money rather than slaving at a 9-5, or just get some fast cash when you need it!
