Cut Your Debt By Saving On Your Household Bills
In times of austerity, it is helpful if you can save money here and there and cut your outgoings wherever you can. Fuel costs have increased over the last few months and inflation is high. But it’s not all doom and gloom – with a few little tips you can quickly reduce your household bills and make yourself better off. Here’s how to get started…
Home Improvement
Sometimes you have to invest to save money. So if your home is in need of renovation, why not give serious consideration to ways that you can increase the value of your home and at the same time make it more efficient? Cavity insulation, new UPVC sash windows or even just new, thicker curtains can all help to keep your home warmer and save significant money on heating bills
Energy Saving Bulbs
Efficient light bulbs have seriously improved over the last few years and they are now just as cheap as standard ones. Some people say that they are too dim, but here’s an idea: use the most efficient bulbs in rooms that you don’t use too often, or that don’t need to be light, and then in rooms such as the kitchen where you need it, use higher powered efficient bulbs – you will still make a significant saving, and where it matters your rooms will be as light as you need. They also last for 10 years or more, so no more having to worry about replacing bulbs!
Plan Your Shopping Trips
If you go grocery shopping without a plan, you will buy things you don’t need and you will waste food. Before every shopping trip, take note of what food you already have and try to plan meals, then just buy what you need. Also, don’t go shopping hungry, have dinner before you go out and you will be able to make much better decisions during your shop.
Buy More Food
If you find that you don’t have anything exciting in the cupboard you are far more likely to want to go out for dinner. Always make sure that you have plenty of interesting food in the house so that there is less temptation to eat out, this will save you significant amounts of money in the long run – cooking is fun too!
Budget
This isn’t a fun tip, but it is a good idea to actually plan what you are going to spend. Budgeting will put your mind at ease and help you to use your money more efficiently. It will help you to know whether you have the money to spare or not, so that you can enjoy yourself without the worry of not knowing whether you afford it.
