Cash For Cans

Cash for cans is very different than many of the posts here on Fast Cash, but it’s a very viable method for getting money when you need it.  It helps you, and it helps the planet, and these are two things that are important to me, so I’m going to write about it.

Recycling cans for cash has gotten a bad rap in many large cities because of the homeless population digging through trash cans to get a little money to survive, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use it to get fast cash.  There are aluminum cans everywhere, and it’s just a matter of finding, gathering, and returning them for you to get paid.  You don’t need to cruise around town with a shopping cart full of cans (although, it wouldn’t hurt!) to get paid.  Ask friends and family what they have on hand, or go to your local restaurants to see if you can take them from them.

My own experience with recycling aluminum cans for cash is here in California.  We pay a five cent deposit on every bottle and can that we buy, and that money is returned by recycling centers when the cans are brought back.  I know that this isn’t the case in every state, but there are scrap metal recycling stations everywhere that will take your cans for cash.  In most cases, all you need to get cash is an ID from your state and they’ll accept your cans.  In some states, like Arizona, there are much stricter regulations on giving your scrap metal to these recyclers due to high rates of copper theft, but if all you have is aluminum you shouldn’t have much trouble.

How much can you make?  It’s usually around $12/lb. for aluminum if you recycle with scrap collector.  Keep in mind that a pound of aluminum is quite a few cans, so you better get out there and get collecting!  Before you end up with tons and tons of trash bags filled with cans, figure out where you’re going to recycle them and how you’ll get them down there.  Nothing is worse than being stuck with bags filled with potential money and nowhere to cash it in!

Not all states pay cash for glass recycling, but here in California it can be a very profitable business.  Wine bottles alone will yield a dime, so there is a lot of money to be made.

Hey all,

I just ran across a few cool articles in my never ending search to find you the best ways to get fast cash that I though I would share with you.  The first article is called Make Money Fast and it goes through various ways to make money on the street.  Have you ever thought about being a street performer to put some cash in your pocket today?  I hadn’t, but it really made me think that all those years I spent learning the guitar could be put to some good use!  The article also goes into making money with recycling and starting an online business.  Both of these are more great ways to get some fast cash.

The second article I want to share with you is called Quick Ways To Make Money.  This article is similar to the pawn shop article here, but goes into much more detail about how to learn to part with your stuff and set up a garage sale.  The key to a good garage sale is promotion, and the method outlined in the article is a way I never thought of (of course I’m not giving it away, read the article to find out!).

All in all, I think these methods are two more great ways to get fast cash when you need it.  As this site grows there will be many more of these to come, so stay tuned!
