Payday Loans and Fast Cash Guide | Why Logbook Loans Are Dangerous

Why Logbook Loans Are Dangerous

In the UK the logbook is all of the information that relates to your car. It is your official document that proves you own your car. That’s why when you put your car up as collateral to secure a loan; it’s called a logbook loan. In the United States it would be called a title loan or a secured loan. There’s an obvious danger to use your car for collateral on a loan, and that is the risk of losing your car should you become unable to make payments. For some people losing their only form of transportation would be a complete disaster. However there are some hidden dangers that you need to watch out for, especially if you are conducting business with a lender that you found online.

One thing to watch out for is the fine print on the loan that requires you to keep up with the maintenance on your vehicle and also to not fall behind on the taxes. Obviously money is pretty tight for you or you would not be getting a loan in the first place. Some of the shadier logbook money companies are entering into this agreement with you for the sole purpose of getting your car, so the minute you skip a routine maintenance on your car they use the opportunity to call your loan due, and take the car.

Another danger might be that you will be unable to sell your car while you have a UK logbook loan out on it. For example things have changed and the vehicle you have is not sufficient. Perhaps you own a two-seater car and you just got a job that requires you own a truck. You can’t sell your car and buy a truck while you still have a logbook loan out on the car.

Bad credit loans are typically known for being a problem in the first place because they actually go after people who really shouldn’t be taking them out at all. People who have no money and bad credit should not be getting loans because they can’t pay them back. It’s simple math, and getting deeper in debt when you can’t pay the bills you already have is just a recipe for disaster.
